Cruse Bereavement Service

There are 2 things that are guaranteed in life - birth and death!!!

This was the opening statement from our 1 guests speakers last Tuesday night - Hanna and Christina from the voluntary organisation Cruse Bereavement Support.
It started its life in London in 1959 and now operating in Tyneside since 1997 with bases in Heaton, Whitley Bay and Gateshead.

As the name suggests this is a voluntary organisation to support young and old who have or are suffering from ‘bereavement blues’.
The counselling can be face to face, phone, zoom, webcam etc. and is usually directed via GPs, local literature or personal contact.
The face to face groups can be offered to up to 30 people with 2 counsellors; after a short presentation the clients breaks out into smaller groups where people can ‘off-load’ their pain and be given advice, support, and counselling direction. There are usually 6-8 sessions lasting up to 50 mins and such is the success that there is a waiting list and positive feedback of 96%.

All volunteer counsellors are given regular training updates and many are professionally employed in this field in their daily working lives. All are volunteers and the organisation are entirely self funded.
They can be contacted on: www.cruse.org.uk/gp-referral
