Whitley Bay Rotary receives visit from North Tyneside Chief Executive
Paul Hanson was our guest speaker the other night and it was lovely to see him back again at the club. Once again he had us all on the edge of our seats with his enthusiasm, energy and passion, (seen in the pictures), for all that happens and is happening in North Tyneside.
Paul has been a regular visitor to our club for a number of years and his enthusiasm for his work is infectious, and last night he reminded us all that this was the first year after the pandemic where so many things had changed and not necessarily for the better!!!
For instance, areas such as Social Care were still struggling to help families, although the economy was stable but nervous, the financial situation was satisfactory, but tight, and the books should balance, unlike many other Councils in the country…mentioning no names!!!
Paul is always ‘good value’ and he spoke to us for a positive thirty minutes on a host of topics such as: things that happen!!! – unwelcome industrial waste from our Crematoriums! obscure and dangerous medicines imported up the River Tyne and regularly checking for imports that were full of ‘nasties’.
The ‘housing boom’ in North Tyneside got a mention too as did the infrastructure that needs to go with it.
And of course, we are coming into an election period on so many fronts. Paul as the Chief Returning Officer knows this is his most important job; upholding the building blocks of democracy. He will need a wee bit of crystal ball gazing as we look to the future……global disruption and the war zones, how it affects our industrial supplies etc. and not forgetting the political sector with its up and coming changes and with new political authorities where he foresaw at least two years of political changes in the North East alone.
Garry gave a short humorous vote of thanks at the end of a fascinating insight to the life of a CEO in North Tyneside. We all look forward to Paul’s return and another update.
