WHITLEY BAY ROTARY CLUB CROCUS SHOW
In 2016 for World Polio Day the club marked the occasion by planting over 4,000 purple crocus bulbs at the entrance to Waves Leisure Centre on the sea front. This was to observe and support Rotary International’s ‘Purple 4 Polio Day’ - a national Rotary planting project which took place all over Europe in October 2016.
Now, seven years on, the bulbs have matured, spread and flowered consistently to remind people that this terrible disease is still active in poorer parts of the world. So, the monies raised by Rotary purchases in Europe have continued and will continue to help to fund the process of vaccination world-wide……….and before you ask our Rotary Mascot – Fox did not use the crocus facilities but left them for all to see!!
If you would like to learn more about Whitley Bay Rotary’s activities, please do not hesitate to call our club president Roger Windass via our Rotary Web Site / Face Book page or telephone; 07435422687.
