In recent months the Rotary Club of Whitley Bay has been raising funds to purchase over 240 illustrated, ‘Dictionaries for Life’, to present to four of the region's first schools in Whitley Bay – Coquet Park, Marine Park, Southridge and Star Of The Sea.
Before the end of the summer term and their graduation to Middle School, each final year pupil received their own named illustrated dictionary from the club president Richard Hart, who said, "Our Club is delighted to be supporting our local first schools with these beautifully illustrated books, which the children will be able take with them on the next part of their school journey."
He added, "This is a project which we hope to be able to sustain over the coming years and make it a regular end of year presentation to as many first schools in Whitley Bay as we can."
The illustrated dictionaries are part of a National Rotary scheme to enable as many young people as possible to source their educational reference material through traditional as well modern techniques.
