           Rotary's Dictionaries for Life
Presented to the Nine First Schools in Whitley Bay

In recent months our Rotary Club in Whitley Bay has been raising funds from local projects to purchase a ‘Dictionary for Life’ to present as end of year gifts to all nine first school leavers in Whitley Bay totalling over five hundred pupils.

Now at the end of July, many schools are closing for the summer holidays, club members have been busy delivering to each school a present for the children as they prepare to move onto their chosen middle school in September.

This is the ninth year that the club has been able to organise this annual project and we hope to be able to continue this scheme for many years to come.

This year's club president, John Clarkson, was unable to visit many schools personally over the last week or so, so our club members were more than happy to step in, including a fellow member’s wife, Yvonne who has recently retired from Marine Park having worked there for over twenty years. So quite a celebration for Yvonne and the young people too.

To celebrate this particular occasion Stephen Easton and ninety of his pupils sang songs from their year four production and a Happy Birthday to Rotary as it starts its Centenary year of celebrations with sea front floral displays and ‘Welcome to Whitley Bay’ Rotary Wheels to mark hundred years of community help and activities in North Tyneside.
