In recent months the Rotary Club of Whitley Bay has been raising funds from local projects to purchase over 240 illustrated, 'Dictionaries For Life', to present to four of the regions First Schools in Whitley Bay - Coquet Park, Marine Park, Southridge and Star Of The Sea.
Before the end of the Summer Term and with their graduation to Middle School School, each final year pupil received their own named illustrated dictionary from this year's club president, David Wilkinson, who said ; ‘Our Rotary Club, which was founded in 1923, has been supporting the local community for many years. I am delighted that we have once again been able to support more young people with Dictionaries for Life. I’m sure these books be an invaluable educational reference for many years to come and will help to support the developing skills of the next generation‘.
Headmaster, Stephen Easton, from Marine Park, explained that ; ‘These particular pupils were the finalists of a project called, ‘Junior Apprentice’, a project that involved rounds of competitive eliminating tasks. All the finalists had been successful in finding ways to raise the most amount of money through buying and selling items in a shop, which they had set up in school play times’ - Could these be the Dragons Den contestants of future years?
