‘The Show Must Go On’

Rotary Club Gangs Up With Ninety-Seven Local Scouters for New Show in the New Year

Whitley Bay Rotary Club is delighted to announce their support for the new Scouting Gang Show – ‘Showtime’.
Club President Rod Clark said it was a great opportunity for the Rotary Club to use donations from recent collections to support local scouters to put on the show and thereby support our local community.

The family-friendly variety show will be packed full of music, dancing and entertaining comedy sketches. Alongside the cast of 97 young people, over 40 adults are also volunteering their time over the coming months helping to build the scenery, compose the music, choreograph the routines and make costumes and props.

Club President Rod Clark added that he was delighted the club could support such a worthy annual enterprise saying; ‘The cast of these young people who are aged between 8 – 25 will provide them with an amazing opportunity giving them the confidence and experience of being on stage like so many of their heroes’.

Showtime Chairperson, Susan Johnson commented further; ‘We're very grateful to the Rotary Club of Whitley Bay for their kind donation to Whitley Bay Scouts’ Gang Show – Showtime! Taking part in the show is an unforgettable experience and a great opportunity to engage with and entertain the local community and we wouldn't be able to put the show on without the commitment of our adult volunteers and the generosity of donors such as the Rotary Club’.

During the presentation, Senior Vice-President Liz Hayes presented a cheque for £500 to Susan Johnson.
Members of the Rotary Club then witnessed a rehearsal for one of the routines from the show and Senior Vice-President Liz said;
’It was a breathtaking routine carried out with so much energy and enthusiasm. I feel sure that the show will be a resounding success. It is wonderful to see so many young people spending time together for the benefit of our community - well done and thank you’.

Showtime will be at the Whitley Bay Playhouse from Thursday 23rd – Saturday 25th January 2020 and tickets are £10 for Adults and £8 for under 18s and can be purchased via the Playhouse box office on 0844 248 1588 or www.playhousewhitleybay.co.uk
