Pupils argue their way to victory........
A team of students from Monkseaton High School recently went head to head with Whitley Bay High School in the Whitley Bay Rotary Club's 'Youth Speaks' competition and have come away victorious for the second year running.
A superb solid silver trophy was presented to the winning team which had been donated by the late Peter Gofton in memory of his father Billy Gofton, the well known Monkseaton Builder.
This year, the cup was presented by President David Wilkinson who said, "Although the competition has been fierce, Monkseaton's topic 'Prisoners Deserve The Right To Vote' particularly impressed the three judges from the Whitley Bay Speakers Club. Their deftly argued points with a host of supporting facts makes them worthy winners of the Gofton Cup this year. This team will now progress to the Rotary District Competition which is to be held in early March next year."
