Pupils argue their way to victory........

A team of students from Monkseaton High School recently went head to head with Whitley Bay High School and Kings Priory School in the Whitley Bay Rotary Club's 'Youth Speaks' competition and came away victorious for the second year running.
A superb solid silver trophy was presented to the winning team which had been presented by the late Peter Gofton in memory of his father Billy Gofton the well known Monkseaton Builder.
This year the cup was presented by President Brian Royce who said, "Although the competition has been fierce, Monkseaton's team topic, 'Young People to-Day Aren’t What They Sometimes Seem’, particularly impressed the judges from the Whitley Bay Speakers Club. Their deftly argued points with a host of supporting facts made them worthy winners of the Gofton Cup this year. This team will now progress to the Rotary District Competition which is to be held in early March next year."
