Whitley Bay Rotary Welcomes New President

Rod Clark is the newly elected President of the Whitley Bay Rotary Club. Rod who hails from North Shields left the area at the age of sixteen to pursue a career in the Royal Air Force, as an apprentice aircraft electrical and instrument engineer.

Sport and recreation however soon took an inspirational roll in Rod’s career, in particular as the team leader and coach of the Royal Air Force Gymnastic Team, for which at the age of twenty-three he was awarded the British Empire Medal. He subsequently gained his Queen’s Commission and served with distinction until his retirement at the rank of Squadron Leader.

Rod has always been interested in charitable deeds, so after leaving military service he was employed at a national North East charity working with disadvantaged young people; this subsequently inspired him to further charitable work with the Weston Spirit organisation and Henshaws Society for Blind People. Finally, this led to his role as Chief Executive Officer establishing the British company of a Canadian IT Group until his retirement in 2009. He is now looking forward to taking on the new Rotary challenges of his presidential duties.

If you are involved in a local charity and are looking for support, please do not hesitate to contact the Whitley Bay Rotary Club.
