WHITLEY BAY ROTARY – RAMPING UP THE ART DEPARTMENT IN THE LINSKILL CENTRE
Whitley Bay Rotary Club was delighted to be able to support the Art Department in the Linskill Centre by replacing two existing wooden wheelchair ramps with purpose built new concrete ones. The new ramps will enable wheel chair users to move from one studio to another with added ease.
At the opening presentation, Senior Vice President Liz Hayes said; ‘The Rotary Club is delighted to be able to support the Art Centre again. In 2010 we purchased a computer, printer and software which I understand is still in use, so I’m sure that these new purpose built concrete ramps will last even longer!’
The Chief Executive Officer for the Art Centre, Mr Paul Hillier added that he was very grateful for the continued support from the Rotary Club and was delighted to welcome them back after all these years.
The studio was started in the Linskill Centre in 1991 after initially being established in the Psychiatric Department at North Tyneside General Hospital.
The art studio now caters for many individuals of all abilities and mobilities and provides a safe working environment for budding artists to develop their work.
Over the past 25 years artists from North Tyneside Art Studio have gone on to create their own independent art practices, start their own businesses, take up employment or voluntary work and re-enter education at all levels.
However, all of these incredible achievements began with the simple act of picking up a brush, a pencil, or a handful of clay and beginning the transformative journey that comes from creative activities.
