Rotary and Macmillan Working Together In Our Community

For the past eleven years Whitley Bay Rotary Club has dedicated at least one collection day each year to support Macmillan Cancer Care for their local services operating in the North Eastincluding North Tyneside.
In North Tyneside they have an information and Cancer Support Service which has a range of Macmillan professionals who work both in hospitals and the local community. This includes Bereavement Support, Nursing Support and Walk and Talk Groups. Support like this is vital for someone living with cancer to help them find their best way to cope with everyday issues.
Macmillan aims to help people life live with cancer as fully as they can, through a range of services, supporting them with money worries, family and work – in fact all aspects of life.
President Terry Took was delighted to meet Sabena Monk, a volunteer Macmillan support worker and present her with a cheque for £500 which had recently been collected from the Whitley Bay town centre.
During the meeting, Sabena explained some of the issues which Macmillan encompassed. Saying that, "In North Tyneside we want to be able to reach as many people as possible who need Macmillan’s support. Donations from events and collections such as this Rotary collection are crucial to enabling us to raise vital funds and awareness, particularly when we consider that one in three people will in their life time need the services of cancer support group."
Sabena ended by saying….’Life with cancer is still life – lets help people live it."
President Terry thanked Sabena for giving up her time and coming along to meet members of the club and he looked forward to meeting her again and supporting Macmillan in the coming year.
