Visitor from Overseas- Rotary Club of Mityana, Uganda
The Whitley Bay Rotary Club has in recent times joined forces with the 21st Whitley Bay Scouts and the Rotary Club of Mityana in Uganda.
This joint project has seen all three organisations join forces to help support the Mityana Kigogozi School Development in a building and refurbishment programme for two new dormitories at the school.
So our Rotarian visitor for the evening, who was visiting the North East was able to tell the club how the new developments were progressing at the school.
Our club was delighted to hear of the progress being made throughout the school and the construction of the new dormitories, which accommodate forty boys and girls who would normally travel on foot for up to three hours each day, just to get to school!
The building of the dormitories at the school will now enable the children to be accommodated over night, rather than sleeping on the floor of their classrooms!
Rotary President Tore Skjaerstad commented how delighted he was to meet our fellow Rotarian from Uganda saying, "I am delighted to continue our support in this team project and look forward to when we can not only see the finished buildings, but also hear from the children as to what they think of their new surroundings."

The meeting concluded with lots of questions from members who were keen to know how Rotary 'worked' in Africa and in particular in Uganda.
President Tore wished our guest well for the future, a happy stay in the North East and hoped that he wasn't feeling the cold just yet!!!
