Rotary and Scouts Join Forces Again

The Whitley Bay Rotary Club has in recent times been supporting the 21st Whitley Bay Scouts in their mission to help the Mityana School Development in Uganda. The troop is currently supporting a building and refurbishment programme for two new dormitories in the Kigogozi Primary School, Mityana, Uganda.
Carolyn Taylor, chair of the trustees, makes regular visits to the school complex in Uganda to monitor, direct and advise on the progress being made in the re-building programme.
As this is one of the overseas developments that the Whitley Bay Rotary Club supports it was pleased to welcome Carolyn Taylor and Claire Gauld back to the club for an update on the redevelopment project. During the meeting the club was delighted to hear of the progress being made throughout the school and the construction of the new dormitories, which accommodate forty boys and girls who would normally travel on foot for up to three hours each day.
Carolyn explained that the building of the dormitories at the school enabled the children to be accommodated over night because currently, they were sleeping on the floor of their classroom!
Rotary President Tore Skjaerstad said, "We are very keen to continue our support with this programme of developments and I am delighted that we are able to donate from our overseas charity account a further £400.00 to enable the new build to be painted and redecorated throughout."
