The Nissan Factory in Washington

Some twenty plus Rotarians with their friends, partners and families, were lucky enough to spend an afternoon on a guided tour of the production plant at the Nissan Factory, Washington, Tyne and Wear.

Every year the Nissan car plant in Sunderland invites a small number of interested parties to tour the factory and see the production / assembly line in action.
Whitley Bay Rotary was one such lucky organisation, brought about and instigated by a fellow Rotarian, David Wilkinson, who has been able to put our club forward as potential visitors.
So the trip was on and organised and twenty four members, friends, and partners were allowed in and given an opportunity of a lifetime.
The tour took us from the initial fabrication shop to the actual production line, body shop, paint shop, engine and assembly lines to the finished car driven off the production line – a Nissan Duke, complete with the new ‘moon roof!’
In all the tour took approximately five hours and we forgot how many miles we walked around this huge production plant, probably three to four miles, but worth every last step!
