ROTARY PROMOTES CHRISTMAS TREE COLOURING
From mid December until Christmas Eve many children visited the ‘Rotary Santa’ in the Whitley Bay Park View Mall. So the children waiting their turn put their colouring skills to good use, entered the Whitley Bay Rotary Christmas Tree Colouring Competition. By Christmas Eve there were over sixty beautiful completed pictures for Santa to choose a pick a winner from.
The judges this year had some difficult decisions to make, but finally chose six year old Lola Rose Emmonds from Seaton Sluice who wins a family ticket to see the pantomime ‘Sleeping Beauty’ at the Whitley Bay Playhouse.
Lola said, "Can I have the picture for my wall?" and stated she was very much looking forward to seeing Sleeping Beauty and when she was told her photo would be in local papers as well as the WEB Pages of the Rotary Club of Whitley Bay, added "Will I be famous now?"
Tore Skjærstad, Chairman of the Whitley Bay Community Service team said, "This year’s Christmas collection was again very successful with lots of visits to see Santa, lots of entries for the Colouring Competition and in addition to this, I am delighted to announce that we have raised over £1,500, all of which will go to worthy local charities such as Tiny Lives, Teenage Cancer and St Oswalds Childrens' Hospice."
Adding that,"All Rotarians would like to express their thanks to everyone who visited Santa and to all those that gave so generously over the Christmas period to help others less fortunate than themselves - thank you."
