'ROTARY PROMOTES CHRISTMAS TREE COLOURING'
During the month of December many children visited the ‘Rotary Santa’ in the Whitley Bay Park View shopping mall. Children waiting their turn to see Santa put their colouring skills to good use, by entering the Rotary Christmas Tree Colouring Competition and by Christmas Eve there were over fifty completed pictures from which to pick one winner; who would receive complimentary tickets to see this year’s pantomime "Jack and the Beanstalk" at the Whitley Bay Playhouse. The judges this year had some difficult decisions to make, but finally chose Emma Laws from Whitley Bay.
Emma, pictured above with her sister Sophie and brother William said, "I'm so excited about winning as I spent a long time colouring my picture and now I've won! We are all looking forward to seeing the show with my mum."

Brian Royce, Chairman of the Whitley Bay Rotary Club said, "This year’s Christmas Santa collection has been the most successful we have ever had in the many years we have been coming to the mall and we are particularly grateful that the new owners of Park View Mall have allowed us to continue to bring Santa to see the children. We have had many visitors this year and some excellent entries for the Colouring Competition. So we are delighted to announce that we have raised the sum of £1,790.03, all of which will go to local charities, which we will be announcing soon."
In conclusion Whitley Bay Rotary Club would like to express their thanks to everyone who visited Santa and to all those who gave so generously over the Christmas period and we would all like to wish everyone the very best for 2017.
