'ROTARY PROMOTES CHRISTMAS TREE COLOURING'
During the month of December many children visited the ‘Rotary Santa’ in the Whitley Bay Park View shopping mall.
Children waiting their turn to see Santa put their colouring skills to good use by entering the Rotary Christmas Tree colouring competition.
By Christmas Eve there were many completed pictures from which to pick one winner from who would receive family tickets to see this year’s pantomime – Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs at Whitley Bay Playhouse. The Rotary judges had some difficult decisions to make, but finally chose 8 year old Honey Brown from New Hartley, Whitley Bay.
Honey, pictured with her 3 year old brother Vinny said, "I'm so excited about winning as I spent a long time colouring my picture and I’m looking forward to seeing Snow White."
John Clarkson, Chairman of the Whitley Bay Rotary Club said, "This year’s Christmas Santa collection has been very successful and we are particularly grateful to the centre manager, Mr. Trevor Gyllenspetz, for have allowing us to continue to bring Santa to see the children.
We have had many visitors this year and some excellent entries for the colouring competition and we are delighted to announce that we have raised over £1,600, which will now forward to local charities and good causes."
In conclusion Whitley Bay Rotary Club would like to express their thanks to everyone who visited Santa and to all those who gave so generously over the Christmas period and wish everyone the very best for 2018.
