Throughout the month of December, children have been visiting the ‘Rotary Santa’ in the Park View Shopping Mall, Whitley Bay.
Children waiting their turn to see Santa put their colouring skills to good use by entering the Rotary Christmas Tree Colouring Competition.
By Christmas Eve there were many completed pictures from which to pick one winner who would receive family tickets to see this year’s pantomime, Dick Whittington at the Whitley Bay Playhouse. The Rotary judges had some difficult decisions to make, but finally chose 8 year old Lexi Cable, from Monkseaton, Whitley Bay.
Lexi, pictured with her mum Selina said she was so excited and couldn’t stop laughing and giggling since she heard the good news and now she was doubly excited because she was going to see Dick Whittington at the playhouse, with the rest of her family.
Terry Took, President of Whitley Bay Rotary Club said, "This year’s Christmas Santa collection has been the most successful ever and we are particularly grateful to Park View for allowing us to use their facilities and enable the children to meet Santa.
We have had hundreds of visitors and some wonderful entries for the colouring competition and are delighted to announce Lexi as the winner and that we have raised over £1,700 to be spent with local charities and good causes."
In conclusion Whitley Bay Rotary Club would like to express their thanks to everyone who visited Santa and to all those who gave so generously over the Christmas period and wish everyone the very best for 2019.
