The National Glass Centre in Sunderland
Fifteen members of Whitley Bay Rotary Club took a guided tour around the National Glass Centre at Sunderland. They were given a talk on the history of glass and the role of Sunderland and North East England in the development of Glass brought across to England by the Romans.
The tour included instruction by two Glass Blowers in the hand manufacture of a large glass vase from liquid glass including the addition of colour glass chips and the final heating process by which the vase is tempered.
