Rotary at Whitley Lodge Fayre

To mark the Queen’s Jubilee year in 2012 a young curate from St Mary’s Church in Monkseaton was charged with coming up with an activity to mark the occasion and in combination with the local shopping precinct, known affectionately as the ‘Lodge’ the annual summer fayre was conceived.
Now in its fifth year, the event was just as successful this year as it was in previous years with a host of stalls and activities including Whitley Lodge shops and traders, Whitley Lodge First School, Whitley Lodge Baptist Church, St Mary’s Monkseaton, Northumbria Police, live music and the Whitley Bay Street Pastors etc.
So, again in June 2016 our Rotary Club was back with its Coconut Shy and Splat the Rat, the latter involving trying to hit an artificial rat as it speedily emerged from a drainpipe!!
We had a perfect summer’s day, and the visitors arrived in force exceeding everyone’s expectations.
Our club once again donated half of their takings to the ‘Lodge Fund’, which is to be used to support the area and amenities that surround the Lodge.
