‘TREE UP’……. FROM WHITLEY BAY ROTARY
Liz Hayes our newly elected president of Whitley Bay Rotary Club was delighted to present a new Christmas Tree to Woodlawn Special School, based in West Monkseaton Whitley Bay.
President Liz said how sorry she was that due to COVID-19 restrictions she could not present and handover the tree in person. However, she was delighted to pass on her best wishes to Mrs. Gil Wilson, Headteacher, seen here in our picture with pupils from the school.
Woodlawn is a state special school based in Whitley Bay for boys and girls from 2-18 years of age, with physical, medical, sensory and speech and language needs.
Gil Wilson, Headteacher explains: ‘At Woodlawn School pupils come first and our priority is to deliver high quality teaching and learning whilst at the same time providing rich and truly enjoyable learning experiences for our pupils.
We work in teams to deliver an integrated education and therapy through the school day. The professionals supporting pupils and staff deliver an integrated approach including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and an Educational Psychologist.
We want every pupil to be successful, from the very first day, so that when they leave, they have a love of learning for the rest of their lives’.
President Liz, a recently retired Headteacher herself added: ‘I am truly sorry that I cannot visit the school, but am delighted to say that we have been able to support Woodlawn and its young people from our community.
It is such a pleasure to be part of an organization that has been able to bring a little Christmas joy in these difficult times. When the tree is erected next year, we all hope that it will be a happier time, and I too with my fellow Rotarians, will be able to share it with you’.
