2014-15 Yearbook

‘M & Ms’

Having had a very successful 90th Birthday year from July 2013 to June 2014 my main aim for 2014 to 15 is to continue the excellent work that the Club does and has been doing since 1923 and to consolidate and further develop the Club’s charitable work and profile.

I have been using the line ‘M and Ms’ since I took over the Presidency and that doesn’t mean the chocolate sweets but it means ‘More and More’.  I would like us to do more and more of everything we do during my year and have fun doing it and helping great causes.

We are continuing with many of our projects that started in the last few years, such as the support for Shelterbox, Dictionaries for the First Schools, the Mityana School in Kenya  and with continued financial support for many local charities such as North Tyneside Disability Forum, all done through our various fundraising activities in Whitley Bay throughout the year.  Many of our recent charities and projects are shown on our ‘What we do’ Charities Supported Page on our Rotary Club of Whitley Bay Website.

The people of North Tyneside have kindly and generously supported us for many years by helping us to raise valuable funds for all our charitable causes.  I am personally grateful for that and hope that they can continue.

During the 90th year we planted 90 trees in conjunction with North Tyneside Council.  That 90th Anniversary Environmental Project will also continue on Rotary Way that runs from Earsdon to Backworth, with North Tyneside Council agreeing to add extra trees each autumn to the 90 that were planted, until we reach the 100 tree milestone.

Our Web site has made fantastic progress, judging by the feedback and the number of enquiries we have received since it went live about 6 months ago.  We will continue to update the website weekly with all our news on events and visits to ensure we advise visitors what we are doing.

One of my projects this year is to try and increase our membership to include likeminded individuals of both sexes and all ages who believe they can give something back to the Community and have fun doing it.  Members do not have to be resident or work in Whitley Bay to be involved, so if you are interested in seeing what we do please contact us through the website and you will be welcome to attend a couple of our Tuesday evening meetings to get to know us.

I am looking forward to my visits and meeting many new people on my way through my Presidential Year.
